What is blockchain?

July 18th, 2018 by Vigilo

Being a proponent of cryptocurrencies, it is obvious that mass adoption is still a long way off.

The price of 1 bitcoin topped at nearly $20,000 in late 2017. While that generated some interest, most people still have no idea what that means, or what they can do with it.

Bitcoin is a decentralized distributed cryptocurrency (digital currency) without a central bank. It has a fixed supply, so no government or administrator can create coins out of thin air, like the Federal Reserve.

Bitcoin is the most popular crypto, but there are thousands of other cryptocurrencies and tokens which address literally all aspects of human life. People are working to improve not only payment systems on the blockchain, but also healthcare, insurance, real estate transactions, information, voting, etc.

Improvement is good right? But before we get into learning all the different coins, what they do, and how to trade them…we all start at this first question. What is the Blockchain?

What is the Blockchain?

Instead of typing out how blockchain works, it may be easier to absorb through some tutorial videos. In about 40 mins, you can see all of the videos, and have a better understanding of what is blockchain. In the final video, you can actually see blockchain in practice.

If you are ready for more information beyond “What is Blockchain”, and want to learn how to trade cryptocurrencies, let me know.  I can recommend a full paid course that is not my own. Also, I can personally give you some tips, and if you want some more coaching beyond that, I can do so for a nominal fee.

Any questions or comments, fell free to do so below.

My family advocates informed consent when it comes to vaccines. We also (especially as Catholics) believe in the Principle of Subsidiarity, which is that any activity which can be performed by a more decentralized entity should be. In this case, it is the right of the family to decide what action is best for the family. To help give you more information in deciding what vaccines, if any, you will have injected into your children, you should be mindful of the monetary bonuses involved for the one administering the vaccines, your pediatrician.

Is your pediatrician paid a bonus for vaccinating your kids?! It appears so! And it seems that not reaching a certain threshold of fully vaccinated patients can actually cost them the entire bonus! Below you will find the Blue Cross Blue Shield Provider Incentive Program.

BCBS_ProviderIncentiveProgram.png

Are we reading this wrong? Is a pediatrician really paid a $400 bonus for every child fully vaccinated by their 2nd birthday?! Any corrections are welcome if this is not so. But assuming we are reading it correctly, you, by not vaccinating your children, can cost the pediatrician thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars depending on the size of the practice.

If you look at the “Target: COMM” line, it has the threshold at 63%. The pediatrician stands to loose the entire bonus if 63% of their ‘under-2-year-old’ patients are not fully vaccinated. This is big money and something to consider if you sense any sort of pressure on the part of your pediatrician.

Keep this info in mind as part of your informed decision when choosing whether or not to vaccinate your children.

Do you think you are Catholic? The actual Catholic Church teaching may surprise you. Let’s check out what the Church teaches about ‘Religious Liberty’.

The teaching regarding ‘Religious Liberty’ is presented as a comparison between what the Church teaches, versus contrary teachings of a religion that many people THINK is Catholic.

Think You Are Catholic? Check out Church Teaching on Religious Liberty…

If you think you are Catholic, then you MUST ascribe to the teaching of the Catholic Church in the first column. As we know, Church teaching in faith and morals can not be wrong, nor can it contradict itself. That means that to ascribe to the teaching in the second column, you believe the first column to be false.

By thinking that the second column is Catholic, and the first column is false, you are one that believes that the Catholic Church was created sometime in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Because it would be impossible for the Catholic Church to be wrong for it’s first 1900+ years of existence.

Through reason and faith, we can clearly surmise that the teaching described in column one, is truly Catholic. The teaching in the second column is a new teaching from a new church. And the question remains….Do you still think you are Catholic?

It was only a few days ago that 1 Bitcoin cost more than 1 ounce of gold, but volatility continues to pick up in the digital currency markets as many “coins” move off from their all time highs. In this article, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dash will be discussed. Even with the ongoing volatile swings, the overall market cap of cryptocurrencies is relatively small, and digital currencies will be a player for the foreseeable future. Now, what to do about it?

Bitcoin

Just over 2 months ago, the MASSIVE 50% cryptocurrency gain in 2 weeks was noted on this site, and at that same time, Bitcoin gained 21% in 1 week. Since then, there was a build-up in price to the all-time high of about $1,270 per bitcoin, as the SEC was to rule on the approval of a Bitcoin ETF. An ETF would have given investors easier access to ‘trade’ Bitcoin, and it was speculated that an approval would immediately add several hundred dollars to the price of Bitcoin.

As it turns out, the SEC rejected the ETF, and so Bitcoin trading is yet relegated to alternative platforms, and not easily accessible to institutional traders. (Personally, I think this is better for Bitcoin in the long run, as paper trading has manipulated assets such as gold and silver) However, the price didn’t crash as was expected by some, but was fairly stable for several days…..until now.

Over the last few days, Bitcoin has dropped nearly $300!  This drop is likely attributed to the “forking” of Bitcoin. If you care to learn more, here is a forking op-edAlso, here are 3 ‘forking proposals.’

It is doubtful that this spells the end for Bitcoin, but more likely could present a buying opportunity once the price bottoms.  Especially when considering the market capitalization of Bitcoin, compared to other assets. It has realized only a fraction of it’s potential growth, even at $1,000+ per Bitcoin. Keep an eye to see if the 100-day moving average (blue line on chart) acts as support as it did a few months ago.

What is notably actionable now, though, is that this forking issue has increased the desirability of alt-coins like Ethereum and Dash.Cryptocurrency Volatility | The Latest Digital Currency News of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dash

Ethereum

Some speculate that Ethereum will catch and exceed the size of Bitcoin in time! This is partly due to it’s ‘smart contract’ functionality. Per wikipedia, smart contracts, are computer protocols that facilitate, verify, or enforce the negotiation or performance of a contract, or that make a contractual clause unnecessary. Ethereum also uses an expanded blockchain technology than that of bitcoin, rendering it as ‘better’ to many people. For example, being able to correct the issues of Bitcoin, Ethereum is believed to have better scalability as more and more digital transactions take place globally.

Other differences to Bitcoin, are that Ethereum:

  • has a faster block time, quicker transactions
  • has more coins yet to be mined
  • encourages decentralized mining
  • has it’s own Turing complete internal code

Ethereum’s smart contract technology is enabling other companies to develop blockchain based applications. As the National Inflation Association reports, Augur (decentralized prediction market) and BTL Group (TSXV:BTL), are among those utilizing the Ethereum blockchain. BTL Group is currently testing their Interbit platform with VISA, among others.

These advances in Ethereum easily explain the drastic price moves of late. The cryptocurrency volatility was evident in March 2017, as in a span of 9 days, the value of Ethereum went from about $17 to $55! A 224% gain in only 9 days!

Dash

Dash coin has quite a few desirable characteristics that make it more appealing to various users. It boasts a quicker transaction, a better future forking transition, and the transactions are truly anonymous. See the infographic at the right for a Dash vs Bitcoin comparison chart.

One of the leaders in cryptocurrency volatility as of late, it’s current price sits at about $109. On Feb. 20, it was nearly $21 per Dash. That is a 420% gain in only 1 month!

Bitcoin vs Ethereum vs Dash

All things considered, each type of cryptocurrency has it’s own goal. Really, it is not fully accurate to say one is ‘better’ than the other, because each is developed to achieve different ends, and each user has their own needs. Bitcoin aspires to be more of a stable currency, Ethereum provides the system on which many companies can develop and operate, and Dash points to it’s anonymity and quickness.

They all are susceptible to governments making laws, regulating their use, and the resulting cryptocurrency volatility. But then they all are immune to government central banking. So it’s just like investing in any asset, there are risks and rewards.

Personally, I recommend acquiring some Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dash. Even look into companies like BTL Group (TSXV:BTL) who are utilizing the technology. The market capitalization of all crypto currencies combined is a mere $24 billionThat is comparable to the size of Hershey’s (NYSE:HSY) or Kellogg (NYSE:K).

These digital currencies are still relatively new, and they are open to global inflows of capital. Plus, while we can measure them against companies, they are actual currencies, and cryptocurrency volatility will probably never go away. $24 billion is not that much when the entire world has a GDP of $120 trillion. While not without risk, the potential is astronomical.

Hopefully this info was of use to you. Below, I will include links from our last 2 cryptocurrecy articles to do your own research, if you are interested. And with any gains you may realize, please be a good steward.

Are we one step closer to mandatory vaccines in Pennsylvania?

Currently, Pennsylvania law requires that children receive certain vaccinations before they may attend school, and the law allows for three exemptions. Exemptions that parents and children may use in exercising their rights and liberty are:

  • a pre-existing health issue
  • a religious objection
  • a strong moral or ethical conviction similar to a religious belief

But now, the rights of the residents of Pennsylvania are under attack. SB217 is a bill that would eliminate the exemption for “a strong moral or ethical conviction similar to a religious belief.”

mandatory vaccine pennsylvania

This is dangerous as it moves Pennsylvania one step closer to outright mandatory vaccinations, as we have no guarantee that the other two exemptions are immune from attack. (pun intended)

No matter your position on vaccines, this bill should be opposed as the government has NO right to take over the duties and rights a family has in governing itself. This would be a grave injustice.

There is much information available which is for and against vaccines, and it is the duty of parents and individuals to be informed. Based on their beliefs, their rights must be respected, even if not everybody agrees with them. Governments have no right to take over this duty.

If you live in Pennsylvania, contact your representative and voice your opposition to this intrusion of mandatory vaccines in Pennsylvania.

God Bless.

Regardless of the generation in which we live, the definitions of modesty, chastity, and purity do not change. Lust is as much of a sin now as it was 2,000 years ago. Leading others into the occasion of sin, is as much of a sin, as the sin it promotes. Sins of lust and desire of flesh are mortal sins, and their punishment is that of eternal hell. Dressing in such a way, that undermines modesty and chastity are grievous sins against God.

Marylike Standards - Accepting the Holy Ghost's Fruits of Modesty and ChastityChrist Himself said (Matthew 5:28) “….that whosoever shall look on a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

This reality does not ‘change with the times’. It doesn’t care about the latest fashions. It doesn’t pay any heed to what the world thinks is socially acceptable. It doesn’t care how ‘comfortable’ leggings (as pants!) feel. Mortal sin is mortal sin.

Fortunately, modesty and chastity are 2 of the 12 fruits of the Holy Ghost. We can preserve our souls, and honor God, by adhering to the Marylike Standards of Modesty in Dress. The following are the Marylike Standards as were understood in the 1950’s.  While the everyday wear of ‘dresses’ has waned since that time, simply replace the word ‘dresses’ with ‘clothing. The Marylike Standards of concealing the figure, as opposed to revealing the figure, are timeless ideals to strive for in attaining salvation.

Marylike Standards

  1. Marylike is modest without compromise, “like Mary,” Christ’s Mother.
  2. Marylike dresses have sleeves extending at least to the elbows, and skirts reaching below the knees.
  3. Marylike dresses require full coverage for the bodice, chest, shoulders and back; except for a cut-out about the neck not exceeding two inches below the neckline in front and in the back, and a corresponding two inches on the shoulders.
  4. Marylike dresses do not admit as modest coverage transparent fabrics – laces, nets, organdy, nylons, etc. – unless sufficient backing is added. However, their moderate use as trimming is acceptable.
  5. Marylike dresses avoid the improper use of flesh-colored fabrics.
  6. Marylike dresses conceal rather than reveal the figure of the wearer; they do not emphasize, unduly, parts of the body.
  7. Marylike dresses provide full coverage, even after jacket, cape, or stole are removed.

“Marylike” fashions are designed to conceal as much of the body as possible, rather than reveal. This would automatically eliminate such fashions as tight slacks, jeans, sweaters, shorts; shorts which do not reach down to the knees; sheer blouses and sleeveless dresses; etc. The Marylike Standards are a guide to instill a “sense of modesty.” A girl who follows these, and looks up to Mary as her ideal and model, will have no problem with modesty in dress. She will not be an occasion of sin or a source of embarrassment or shame to others.

Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for Purity

O Immaculate Heart of Mary, Virgin Most Pure, mindful of the terrible moral dangers threatening on all sides, and aware of my own human weakness, I voluntarily place myself, body and soul, this day and always, under thy loving maternal care and protection.

I consecrate to thee my body, with all its members, asking thee to help me never to use it as an occasion of sin to others. Help me to remember that my body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, and to use it according to God’s Holy Will, for my own personal salvation, and the salvation of others.

I consecrate to thee my soul, asking thee to watch over it, and bring it home safe to thee and to Jesus in Heaven for all eternity.

O Mary, my Mother, all that I am, all that I have is thine. Keep me and guard me under thy mantle of mercy as thy property and possession.

“Jesus, Mary, I love Thee, save souls!”
