Monsanto is a multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation. It is the leading producer of genetically engineered seeds and provides that technology in 90% of the Genetically Engineered seeds worldwide. This is threatening because currently, in theU.S., foods containing GMO’s are not required by law to be labeled as such, and about 70% of processed foods contain GMO ingredients!! While some GMOs require less fertilizer and chemicals, the main stated reason for genetically engineered seeds is to create a higher yield per acre, regardless of its safety and risks.
In February 2012, the International Journal of Biological Studies released on its website a study in which rats were fed different varieties of GM corn over 90 day span. The results showed that organ damage was present. Further, the organ damage fluctuated depending upon which sexes of rats were fed which variety of GM corn, and also the amount of which the rats were fed. So some varieties were more detrimental to females than to males, and vice versa. That is not exactly a ringing endorsement for GM food!
In its conclusion, the analysis stated, “Effects were mostly concentrated in kidney and liver function, the two major diet detoxification organs, but in detail differed with each GM type. In addition, some effects on heart, adrenal, spleen and blood cells were also frequently noted.” You can view the report here… http://www.biolsci.org/v05p0706.htm
So as not to confuse things, I want to point out that Procinctu is pro-capitalism. However, what we are experiencing inAmericaand in many places globally is not true capitalism. It may be described as statist corporatism, crony capitalism, or even a form of fascism. It can even be argued to be socialism…whatever it is, it is not free nor fair. There is no level playing field in which one can succeed or fail on their own merits. Everyday we see examples of large corporations and big governments in cahoots with each other. The large corporations give politicians money, lobby, and even positions of employment after their political life. Meanwhile, politicians pass bills to further aide monopolization and hurt the small businesses trying to compete with the big corporations. The ‘free’ market is anything but.
For example, The U.S. government had subsidized sales of Monsanto’s triple-stack maize seed by offering lower crop insurance premiums to farmers who plant it on non-irrigated land. The biotech maize supposedly had a lower risk of reduced yields; however, theU.S. government used Monsanto’s own data to validate this claim. This free market disruption and lack of competition saw Monsanto’s GE maize seed prices soar 35%.

You need to understand how the system works and explore just a few of Monsanto’s connections to the government. These examples are similar to the Goldman Sachs connections throughout the financial sector of government.
Meet a few of the games’ players
Michael Taylor was most recently appointed by Barack Obama to be the ‘Senior Advisor’ to the Commisioner of the United States Food and Drug Administration. His previous post was also under Obama as the Deputy Commissioner for Foods (Food Safety Czar) at the FDA. He was also put in charge of the FDA under Bill Clinton where he approved Monsanto’s rBGH. Taylor worked with Monsanto by establishing and leading a ‘food and drug law practice’ as well as later serving as Vice President for Public Policy at Monsanto. He also had a stint with the United States Department of Agriculture. Michael Taylor’s back and forth positions with Monsanto, the FDA, and the USDA over the course of nearly three decades is a perfect example of how big government and big business operate.
An Obama recess appointment, Mr. Siddiqui is the Chief Agricultural Negotiator in the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR). He also served as Vice President for Science and Regulatory Affairs at CropLife America and lobbied for that same federation earlier in his career (CropLife America represents Monsanto among others). Siddiqui is a big supporter of GMO’s and as Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs at the USDA, he oversaw the release standards permitting both irradiated and GMO foods be labeled as organic.
Founding president of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, which is a de facto Monsanto non-profit research center. Appointed by Obama to direct the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), which is an agency of the USDA. This puts Mr. Beachy, unconfirmed by the public and unelected, in charge of hundreds of millions of dollars for the country’s agricultural research policy.
Mr. Vilsack serves as the United States Secretary of Agriculture for the Obama Administration. Both as Iowa State Senator and Governor, Vilsack has shown his support for GMOs as well as CAFOs, concentrated animal feeding operations (factory farms). He even went so far as to support legislation that would prevent local governments from regulating CAFOs, and later, the local’s regulation of genetically engineered seeds. There was also controversy surrounding Vilsack’s travels via Monsanto corporate jet. Vilsack founded the Governor’s Biotechnology Partnership, and also was named governor of the year by the Biotechnology Industry Organization. As governor of Iowa, he was a big proponent of the use of GMO corn in the production of ethanol. Prior to being appointed Secretary of Agriculture, Vilsack worked as an ‘of-counsel’ lawyer for Dorsey & Whitney.
Are you beginning to see the picture? Big agri business has its tentacles all throughout big government and vice versa. As those in control jump from one ship to the other, kickbacks, favors, and even employment opportunities are given while favorable laws are paid in turn. The result is an uneven playing field, and ultimately, the increased likelihood that your local farmer will be put out of business.
So when you see legislation that promotes “public health” or “food safety” you better band against it because it pretty much ensures you that both will be threatened, along with your basic liberties.
Why have food allergies increased 20% over the past 10 years?
If you have ever bought milk in a store, you may have noticed a label stating “made from cows not treated with rBGH.” Well, you can thank Monsanto for that needing to be stated. And if you do not see that label, you are probably consuming milk from cows that have been altered through steroids and growth hormones.
Bovine somatotropin is a naturally occurring hormone found in cows and it promotes growth and development. But when that growth reaches its natural potential, what do you do? Pump the cow with steroids, of course!
And so, to increase unnatural growth of the cows and increase milk production, Monsanto was the first to develop rBGH, recombinant bovine somatotropin. This mimicking agent increases production, but also results in a decrease in quality.
The rBGH treated cow milk contains a noticeable amount of white blood cells, pus, as well as additional antibiotics which were given to the cow to address the pus. Since the natural process was not given time to complete, you have a milk product deficient in the nutrients it would have otherwise. It is unnatural and dangerous for a cow to be milked in this manner. Nobody really knows the long term effects of ingesting milk from rBGH treated cows.
Again, hard to prove without a doubt, but to ignore the correlation between allergies & diseases and the increased usage of rBGH & GMOs would be irresponsible.
*Another alternative to cow’s milk is goat’s milk. Goats are much less likely to have been milked through unnatural means and analyses have shown that the nutrients in goat’s milk are better quality. Most of the world drinks goat’s milk, not cow’s milk.*
In its history, Monsanto has been behind and associated with many questionable practices and products. Here are just a few:
- Lasso herbicide (Agent Orange)
- Cycle-Safe (banned plastic soft drink bottle suspected of posing cancer risk),
- Roundup resistant seed
- GMO crop failures
- many GMO’s that have never been adequately tested.
Monsanto has also launched numerous legal attacks annually on small farmers claiming patent infringement, while in some cases the farmers claimed never to have used their seeds. Also, worth noting, Monsanto has had lawsuits filed against it world-wide for toxic dumping.
Consider all of this, and then couple it with charges of bribery, noticeable lobbying of politicians, government subsidies, and regulations made to favor them…..and you have one of the most evil corporations in the world. They are enabled by the government and as long as you say nothing, consume their products, and vote in the same politicians…. they are enabled by you as well.
